On our recent trip to Hong Kong we enjoyed the most fabulous evening at the opening of CJ Hendry’s collaboration with Christian Louboutin, “Complimentary Colours.” She is a true inspiration to all of us, especially the young artists following their dreams.

Navy is the new Black

The colour navy in varying hues has never really gone out of style. Navy blue pairs well with almost any colour scheme, a safe choice for a more discerning client. Bold splashes can lend a level of mystery to a space without making it feel small, as black sometimes can.  

We are seeing a lot of wallpapers and soft furnishings utilising this tone of blue, it truly adds a spectacular level of depth to a space. Especially with the addition of a couple of cushions in a contrasting pattern or texture, adding a modern twist with a traditional feel.

Green With Envy

“Greenery” the 2017 Pantone Colour of The Year, representing refreshment and revitalization. The addition of this bright shade of Green in the Soho studio has us all in awe.

This antique settee was given a full facelift with a little TLC and the addition of new upholstery. Being the perfect example of layering old and new, giving this timeless piece of furniture a modern twist, whilst preserving its personality.

Its bright presence is very welcoming to those who pass through our front door, ensure you keep up to date with our social media accounts as we are in the process of designing cushions to accompany this piece.

Elitis Launch

The Soho team enjoyed a lovely evening last week as we viewed the latest collection from Elitis. Their innovative designs are a Soho favourite, having used them for countless displays in the studio. 

The story behind the design of each individual fabric or wallpaper coincides with the pristine quality and durability of this brand. Their designs are timeless yet relevant as they always align with current trends. 

We are looking forward to seeing these on upholsteries as well as wall coverings. Here is a sneak preview of the beautiful Chloe amongst one of the displays on the night. Please stay tuned as we eagerly await the arrival of samples from Paris.

Bedside Manner

Did you know we spend one third of our lives sleeping? Some weeks can be so busy this fact can sound like fiction. Decorating bedrooms can sometimes be a little challenging, which is why our blog this week will be focusing on ‘Bed Heads.’

The bed is the main focal point of a room, the options are endless for the designs of upholstered bedheads. A neutral tone can be brought to life by the addition of cushions in a contrasting colour or texture, whilst a bright and playful pattern can appear to be a piece of art contrasting with crisp white bed linen.

Floor Jewels

A rug can be a significant design entity within a space. It has the capability of changing the entire feel and use of a room. It is often used to define a space by connecting key pieces of furniture and brings warmth through texture and colour.

As rugs are visually below eye level they can be used to add a large addition of colour or pattern without overwhelming a space.

We are constantly seeing new ranges in wool, art silk and sisal in the studio and of can have hall-runners and rugs custom sized and designed to fit any space. So, if your home requires a little floor sparkle please contact us.

Getting Trim

The Soho Interiors team has seen a diverse range of exciting new trims, including indoor and outdoor cords, braids and tapes over the past few weeks.

The addition of tonal or contrasting trims have the capability of changing an entire look of a piece and can add a level of sophistication or playfulness to your furniture. We have been using trims on scatter cushions and bedheads alike and they look sensational!

Outdoor Living

Just when we were adamant the humidity couldn’t rise, February is upon us once again. With the arrival of our warmest month we are spending more time in our gardens and those lucky few immersed in their pools. 

A perfect opportunity to refresh our outdoor furniture, especially with the wider variety of patterns being released at the most ideal time! The newest collections are the most durable we’ve seen, ideal for Queensland’s tropical climate.

The nautical stripe is a timeless classic and an old Soho favourite. A revolving trend, seen season after season, with the capability of transforming your outdoor area instantly into a chic living space. 

2017

2017 is finally here! We have eagerly anticipated its arrival. We closed our doors over the festive period and the Soho team enjoyed a little coastal downtime. The simplicity of beachside interiors is on our minds as we view some of our favourite designers new collections.

Focusing on the impact of colour and texture worked into a neutral space through wall-coverings.  Differing shades of green and in particular the luminous emerald green is one of the foreseen trends for the year ahead.

Festive Fireplaces

The Soho team have been working on a smoking hot project as of late! The design and install of a fireplace. 

Initially this proved to be quite challenging, sourcing this in Queensland, which was what inspired further research into how people style their fireplaces during the summertime.

Hopefully this will inspire you to decorate your fireplaces for our tropical climate and in particularly the festive season

Emerging Designer 2016

Last Friday we spent the evening at the QUT Fine Line graduate exhibition to support one of our own young designers, Chloe Kelly. The event showcased the talented graduates final Honours year project to industry professionals, students and supporters alike.

We are so thrilled to share Chloe was awarded the HASSELL 2016 Emerging Designer Award! What an incredible achievement! We are so proud to see her many years of innovation and dedication recognised by a leading international design company. Watch out, this young lady is going places.

A fabulous night was had by the Soho team at Boyac last week when we were lucky enough to meet Antoine d’Albiousse and view his latest collection.  It's no surprise the collection was absolutely exquisite, and the quality of the fabrics he produced was second to none.  He personally presented the various fabrics to our small group and it was clear he is genuinely passionate about his work and the industry.  One of the highlights of the night was hearing about the array of projects he has completed, including the Evian Hotel in the South of France, which is definitely nearing the top of our bucket lists.

Amanda McColl

Amanda McColl is our favourite artist at the moment! Her artwork is a reflection of her life experienced as an Australian expat living in hong Kong. 

With such contrasting landscapes and cultures, her art contemplates the juxtaposition of these countries, both of which she is proud to call home.

Spring Clean

With summer looming, we decided a spring clean was vital! As hard as it is to part with previous collections we love discovering old favorites from previous years. 

Reminding us that so many fabrics are forever stylish, the varying hues of blue will always be a Soho ‘go-to’.

The layering of old and new is relevant in the beauty found when scheming and especially when designing spaces. Reminding us that the simplest of details can enhance the aesthetic of an entire space.
