Soho’s simple decorating tips while you #stayhome

W-0712.jpg

With many of us working from home or spending more time indoors, it’s not always easy to stay motivated! During this time your house or apartment probably isn’t just functioning as a ‘home’, it’s a home office, living area, gym, a classroom and most importantly it’s a sanctuary in these uncertain times.

We wanted to suggest some simple tips on how to freshen your space, without having to leave your front door. Stay safe and stay home!

A simple swap, which can make a big difference, is changing your cushions around. Swap your cushions around from different rooms to change the colour scheme and look. While you’re at it, try swapping your linen in your bedroom and using prints or colourful linen you haven’t tried in a while.

Are you reading lots of books while you’re staying home? You could try restyling your bookcase by adding small homewares and accessories as well as books to your shelves. You can also organise your books by colour coding them. Trust us, it’s very satisfying and you’ll be thrilled with the finished product.

We know lighting can make a huge change to any room. You could try moving your bedside lamps to another space and floor lamps as well. Open up those curtains to get some more natural light in or make the most of some candlelight in the evening.

If you find you’re spending a lot of your time in a home office or living area why not move a large mirror in there. Moving a mirror to these rooms can make the rooms seem larger. You can also move artwork around to give the room a completely different look and feel.

Another simple idea, which won’t break the bank, includes getting some fresh flowers or a plant delivered by a local florist (and you’ll be supporting a small business). Or, you could go outside and ‘smell the roses’ on your daily walk – always keeping your 1.5 m distance from others, of course.

We are doing things a little differently

That's right, we are going to do things a little differently at Soho Interiors...and we are really looking forward to it!

From June 1 2018, Soho Interiors will take on a new consulting approach; we will bring the latest trends, beautiful designs and creative concepts directly to you.

Wishing farewell to our Racecourse Road studio, we will be exclusively providing consultations in your own home, your office – or even your favourite coffee shop down the road.

What does this mean for you?

Apart from exclusively providing a service that comes directly to you, we are still very much business as usual.

Our contact details including phone number and email will remain the same, while our new Soho Interiors studio will be based in Newstead (closed to the public).

We are looking forward to doing things a little differently.

Decorating with Natural Lime Paint

The final touches have just been added to Soho’s front window! One component of our display is the wall that has been finished in a natural lime paint.

A lighter hue of grey was selected to tie in with our new Kate Spade wallpaper. The way the paint was applied in a rough cross formation is what has given the wall a sensational textural finish.

Summer Interiors

The days are getting longer and the humidity is certainly rising, which can mean only one thing. Summer is almost upon us.

Naturally we are drawn towards an earthy and raw colour palette for the soft furnishings of our home. As we feel inclined to go for breathable fabrics, like linen and cotton, why don’t you consider one with a bold texture or abstract pattern as they truly are a bold design decision.

Endless Summer

The days are getting longer and the evenings are getting warmer and before we know it summer will be upon us yet again. As we are becoming re-acquainted with our outdoor living spaces there’s no time like the present to consider updating your pieces of furniture.

Living in a sub-tropical climate can often make finding the ideal outdoor fabric challenging.     The majority of fabrics we are seeing are water, stain and fade resistant. Current designs are vibrant and available in many different colour hues.

Statement Shades

Custom lampshades are a timeless design decision and a welcomed addition to any space, with the capability of either making a statement or bringing an entire scheme together.

A wonderful way to showcase a custom- made lampshade is in a contrasting print to your upholsteries. The addition of a trim or tape around the edging of the shade is a classic and stylish choice.

Soho have many clients currently awaiting the arrival of their custom lampshades, ensure you keep an eye on our Instagram as we showcase them over the next few weeks.

Making an Entrance

This week at Soho we are loving the addition of a bright front door, its undeniably fun. A vivid colour works for both contemporary and older homes, but if this finish isn’t for you, a darker hue in a high gloss is a stylish decision. Once you’ve chosen the colour for your door don’t forget to consider a brass door handle or knocker to complete your statement entry.

Scatter Cushions

The addition of a scatter cushion made in a bright pattern or textured fabric always lifts a tired space. Custom- made cushions are a sensible investment, especially when quality fabrics and fillings are used. They make the world of difference by connecting your existing pieces of furniture.

First Impressions

The entrance sets the tone for your entire home, which is why the addition of a bold piece or a bright wallpaper in your foyer can have a major impact. Upholstered bench seats or a statement console are a classic choice. We are currently installing a beautiful entrance to an inner city apartment that we will showcase over coming weeks.

The Perfect Bar Stool

Bar stool's have the capability of making a bold statement in your kitchen, providing a new surface and determining the style of the space. Height, fabric and style are a few of the many things to consider when searching for the ideal bar stool. The woven framed stools have been integrated into many past projects, and keep your eyes peeled as we are awaiting the arrival of some new ones for a current install.

Papered Powder Room

Wallpaper has the capability of changing not only a room but the feel of an entire home. Using wallpaper in your bathroom can alter the design of the space, a bright floral or perhaps a geometric pattern welcomes a contemporary feel in a classic manner. If unsure about a dynamic pattern overwhelming a space, you could try using it from vanity height through to ceiling.

Tiles With Style

Soho Interiors have had a very fun few weeks perusing tiles for an apartment install thats currently underway. There are many important things to consider when choosing the right style of tile for your home. Firstly, the room size, light tiles will make the space appear larger, whilst different coloured tiles have the capability of determining the feel of a space. We are opting for a deeper shade of grey for a more contemporary look.

Studded Details

The addition of metal studs as a feature on your upholstered furniture can bring an added dimension to your interiors. The contrast of an embossed metal stud against a pattern with softer undertones is a timeless design decision.

These dining room chairs are from the Soho archive. The detail of the burnished brass stud with french antique chair upholstered in the dainty dragonfly fabric is the most elegant and classic combination.

Lucious Greens

Incorporating greenery into your interiors brings life into your home, softening the barrier between indoors and outdoors. Indoor plants can soften hard corners whilst adding textural contrast and depth. Seasonal flowers can offer a burst of bright colour, bringing freshness to a dull space.

Some hearty favourites of ours are Aloe Vera, English Ivy, Fiddle leaf figs and of course orchids. The Soho showroom has a mixture of succulents, magnolias and large palm leaves on display this week to accompany our rainforest inspired wallpaper.

Marbleous

Marble is a timeless natural stone. There are many ways to incorporate marble in your home, outside the bathroom and kitchen. A little bit can go a long way, which is why we are loving the variety of the Marble Basics products.

Currently at Soho we have various marble shapes doted around our timber studio table - a beautiful textural and organic duo. Combining marble into your table settings, with the addition of elegant marble coasters and platters adds a level of luxury to entertaining.

If you wish to adorn your home with marble accents, please enquire at Soho Interiors.

Treat your Windows

Choosing the ideal window treatment for a space can be a difficult design decision. There are various aspects that should be taken into considered, such as the windows aspect and direct sun exposure, the rooms purpose in relation to privacy, block-out and overall ambience and the existing pieces that make up the space. Selecting fabrics that are appropriate for Queensland’s sub-tropical climate and harsh sun exposure is a critical for smart and enduring window treatments.

Please schedule a consultation with the Soho Interiors team if you are considering what type of window treatment is best for you.

Designing for Fun

Pink or blue? Gone are the days of designing a nursery around a particular hue. We are seeing an increase of design for children’s spaces in the industry at the moment. Our favourites are of an Australian heritage, varying from native wattles to cheeky wombats.

As we steer away from traditional pastels, a contemporary approach is dominating consisting of bright colours and bold stripes, a visual wonder for little eyes!

Smart Sofas

This dreary drizzle has us all dreaming about being curled up on our sofas at home. There are multiple factors to consider when you are choosing the perfect sofa.

Firstly, consider the scale of the room to determine the sofa configuration. What is the sole purpose of the space? As formal rooms suit a classic central arrangement, TV rooms will require the sofa to be oriented towards the screen.

Now for our favourite part, to choose the right upholstery: luxurious fabrics like velvet and linen are far more durable these days so they aren’t limited to only formal spaces. Showcasing a recent design and upholster for a dear client of ours.
